If there's a 12 step program for linen addiction, I'm there. Or one for lovers of all things made in monochromatic neutrals... or for people who have a long to do list, and never seem to get to the bottom of it.
I assembled this stack of fabric for my latest sewing project. I've just gotta sew each week, or I'll burst. I truly enjoy sewing things for my home, and these fabrics are just begging to be made into pillow cases and covers. However, I'd been hoarding them for a while, and like others over at The Inspired Room, I needed to join the Project Procrastinators Party and just get the job done.
I love this old bridal lace... heavy embroidery on delicate netting. I'm thinking a pillow case overlay might be really pretty. We'll see. The fabric beneath the lace is one panel of the curtains I took down from my master bath re-do blogged about here. They're really nice, creamy linen, and since I repurpose everything, these will become two extra long, but unembellished pillowcases. I love the extra length, as it makes for a beautiful drape over the edge of the bed that is really elegant...plus, the covers never slip off when they're extra long like this.
I've got two fat quarters in a nice taupe and steely blue paisley print that will make a decorative pillow cover for one of those not-necessary-but-oh-so-lovely extra pillows on the bed.
This gorgeous fabric will be made into a ruffly cover for the large bolster pillow on my bed. I know, it's tan, grey, taupe and ivory. Forgive me for the almost complete absence of color, but it's going to be delicious when it's finished, I promise.
You knew there would have to be an old button in here somewhere, right? These are over an inch in diameter and kind of look like carved wood. I'm thinking they'll go on the bolster cover, but I'm not sure yet. The wide, wide, taupe trim was a splurge a while ago... almost $20 for the three yards it would take to trim one set of pillow cases.
I told you I need a 12 step program....
... but the lace was perfect with this linen blend fabric, but since I'd saved a ton on the fabric (less than $3.00 per yard on sale), the total cost of a really elegant set of linen pillow cases would be under $30.00.
Oh yes, I do like this. It's got pretty written all over it.
I can't wait to put these on my pillows. As far as obsessions go, maybe this isn't such a bad one. What do you think?
Stay tuned, my next project is the ruffly bolster cover. I'll do a step by step, no pattern, and show you how I "wing it" with my covers. Yummy results, I promise.
Blessings ~
Eileen

Eileen, your pillow cases turned out so beautiful. I can't wait to see what else you're working on. Sorry this is so late in commenting. I thought I'd check to see what I missed.

I just happened onto your blog, and I'm glad I did. I too have an addiction to fabric, especially if it's vintage, and comes in washout hues such as you've shared here. Love the pillowcases you made, they are beautiful and I'm inspired to make a pair as well.

Ok, I have officially asked my mom if I could borrow her sewing machine. Never mind that I haven't used one since, um, well, maybe my apron project in home ec.
You inspire me with all of the beautiful things you make! All of it is lovely!
Glad you joined in the party!

What a beautiful collection of old lace. I have used up everything that was in my late mother's stash, and I am finding that these pieces are increasingly hard to come by.

Yummy fabric!! And the pillowcases are so dreamy. Can't wait to see how the rest of the pillows all turn out.
I just got out my sewing machine for the first time in probably 7 years. Now I'm itching to sew some pillows up. But I don't have such yummy fabric as yours. But I guess I could always find some.

How I wish I can sew like you. Well, I can sew but I don't have any inspiration or motivation doing it. I got a new sewing machine last year but it's hiding under the shelf of my linen room.
Thanks for sharing. I guess you give me some ideas. I will be back here and look for more ideas.
Have a nice Friday and w/end ahead.
