She's beautiful, isn't she? Simple and serene, she stands in a corner of the art nest, waiting patiently for something... I don't know what... repair? New finery? Embellishment? She is perfect just as she is for now, a vision of loveliness viewed from my work table in the art nest.
Like all art nests, there are many lovely things displayed throughout, to inspire me, to have their beauty around me. I struggle to maintain some semblance of order with the many nice things in the tiny room, and try to keep careful control of the stuff, for fear it will take over one day and hubby will find me missing, and have to send out a search party, only to discover me buried beneath mounds of vintage wonders, paper and glue.
There are many happy things created in the art nest, and I've mixed these in with the crusty old treasures I've discovered over the years and hauled home.
I love it when I stumble upon a treasure, once elegant and fine, but now humbled by age and handling. To my mind, these items have greater beauty because of their journey and the hands and lives that have touched them along their way to my home.
The light in the art nest is perfect, and hard to capture in pictures sometimes. I only need to turn the lights on in the darkness of our winter months, so all the old lamps and vintage Tiffany lights distributed about are more for ambiance than actual task lighting.
When I work, I sit on a heavy rattan trunk, extra storage that's helpful in keeping control of more stuff. My shipping and my packaging supplies are in here mostly. Little Binx often sits beside me on the trunk, and, when I'm not paying enough attention to her, will climb right on to the work table and demand some loving.
From my work station I look out towards the foyer, where the french doors doors bring more natural light into the space. This incredible wall unit sits next to me where the most often used supplies are kept neatly organized in boxes of all shapes and sizes, labeled with pretty tags so that I know what's in what.
Behind me is a closet just packed to the ceiling with goodies. The old crown molding shelf above holds my favorite handmade books. Right now I have a non-lovely metal shelving unit behind the closet doors, but have asked hubby to make me pretty shelves inside the entire closet for my birthday in a couple weeks. If he does this (please, oh, please?) then I will take off the doors and put up a nice calico curtain to cover the opening, and I will load all my stuff in more nice boxes with pretty tags to label their contents.
Behind me are photos of loved ones, my father's picture most prominent, taken two years before his passing. A wire frame holds old chromolithograph postcards and a few cabinet photos.
A linen table cover was a fairly recent sewing project, another contribution to my current addiction to linen. I use a sheet of kraft paper to cover the top when I am pasting and painting, and I love the warm, natural textures and colors to enjoy while I work.
About the lovely dress form in the corner.... I think she should have a name, don't you? But I've not been able to come up with anything suitable, soft, romantic, lovely enough for her.
Any ideas?
Eileen

Oh EILEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!.........yes, that's me SQUEALING! What a FAB room. Oh, how I wish it were mine. How perfect! Our house is sooooo small and my work space is so limited. My daughter and I came up with this fabulous plan a couple of years ago to re-do my "sewing room" which meant my DH's clothes would be moved from that closet to the master closet (ok, not the best plan, I LOVE having ONLY my own stuff in my closet, but I was willing)......My DH, who never says NO.......said............NOOOOOOO! YIKES! I don't think I'll ever post that room. It is FULL to the brim. No wonder I procrastinate. :-) I used to have that basket that you have on your lovely worktable, I can't think where it could have gone.......DARN it.......I have the little "Nest" sign too and I just picked up the little wire piece at a shop here to admire it, but couldn't think of where to put it. :-)
I had a WONDERFUL time visiting. I adore your style.......
Bless you and hugs,
Spencer
PS.....Isn't linen just the yummiest? I just bought a lovely bit at the Goodwill that I'll use in the den. :-)

Your room is amazing! I'm at a loss for a name for her. I am still at a complete loss for baby names... Although I've always like the name Vivien and felt it was very feminine and romantic (which is probably why my husband will not let me name a child that).
