It was a very tiny project, this little angel. He was sitting all alone on the clearance rack at Michaels last week, listed for a paltry sum of a couple dollars. He was solid, heavy pottery, and had such a nice expression. He came home with me last night. This is how he looked at first....
Such a sweet baby face, but with a kind of a funny, yellow-ish, shiny glaze. Hmmm... something's not quite right here. Now, what does he need? A bit of gold to make him regal? No, too over the top for my home, and anyway, he didn't really look like royalty. Verdigris to show his age? No, too green and somehow not right for him either.
Gesso? I had the gesso out already, and wings white as snow seemed to fit. What do you think?
My little angel is such a tiny transformation, but his small presence resides softly on the little black chest in the foyer, quiet encouragement to visitors who enter my home.
He is the first thing they see, after the bible verse engraved on a plaque hanging outside my front door ~
"And thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart.
And thou shall teach them dilligently unto thy children, and shall talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
And thou shall bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shall write them upon the post of thy house and on thy gates."
Deut. 6: 4-9
Blessings ~

Eileen, yes, I think the white is perfect with the other things in your house. It's a sweet little cherub.
The other "cherub", my cat showing her belly - yes, she would let you rub it! =^..^=
And do splurge on the border punches. They're so much fun. I just discovered they have round ones too! Next on my list! The many different cut-out designs are amazing. I just bought a straight one with a fleur-de-lis! It's rather temperamental with delicate papers though - they have to be just the right weight or they tend to get stuck in the cutting blades.
Happy spring!
